The need for secure online authentication becomes more pressing as the world increasingly relies on the internet for communication and commerce. In response to this need, Notion recently (and about time too, really) introduced a new two-factor authentication (2FA) feature that provides users with an added layer of security.
Two-factor authentication, also known as 2FA, is a security process requiring users to provide two forms of identification to access their account. The first form of identification is usually a password, while the second form can vary and may include something like a fingerprint, facial recognition, or a security token.
Notion’s new 2FA feature is designed to work with authentication apps like Google Authenticator, Authy, Duo and 1Password. When 2FA is enabled, Notion will prompt the user to scan a QR code with their authentication app, which will generate a unique, time-sensitive code that the user must enter along with their password when logging in. A phone number can also be added to generate a one-time passcode.
By adding this extra layer of security, Notion’s 2FA feature helps to prevent unauthorized access to user accounts, even if a password has been compromised. This is especially important for users who store sensitive information in their Notion workspace, such as business documents, financial records, or personal data.
Enabling 2FA on a Notion account is quick and easy. Here are the steps:
