Apart from the Logseq vs Obsidian point, it sounds like we are on a very similar path and have a similar chain of thought — use the appropriate tool, not rely too much on plugins and not give our data (PDFs especially) to the cloud.

The last point is why I also cannot use Reader for PDFs. I want them stored in a place which is comfortable for me as opposed to someone's cloud. If they improve this aspect, will be interesting whether Zotero stays in the game :).

Sticking to the apps is my motto for 2023, I wish us both luck in this endeavour.
